How to care for your costume jewelry: tips from our workshop
Compartir
We want your Costurero Real garments to accompany you on many adventures. That is why we have gathered some simple tips to keep your capes, dresses, and textile accessories looking beautiful for a long time.
1. Velvet: preserve its softness and shine
Velvet is one of our favorite fabrics, but it needs some care to maintain its texture.
- Machine wash with cold water on a delicate cycle, provided the garment's finish and trimmings allow it.
- Avoid strong spin cycles and the tumble dryer.
- Do not iron directly on the velvet: use steam from a distance.
- Store capes hanging so they keep their drape.
Workshop trick: if your cape arrives wrinkled after shipping, leave it hanging for a few days. Its own weight will help it regain its shape.

2. Gauze and chiffon: light and delicate
Gauze is perfect for our flowy capes and kimonos, but it can snag easily.
- Machine wash on a delicate cycle with cold water, preferably inside a laundry bag, if your garment does not have special structures.
- Avoid intense spin cycles and let air dry.
- Be careful with jewelry, Velcro, and accessories that could snag the fabric.
Workshop trick: for small wrinkles, hang the garment and use a bit of gentle steam, without bringing the iron too close.
3. Viscose and elastic fabrics: comfort and movement
We use these fabrics in dresses, tops, and pants for their softness and comfort.
- Machine wash with cold water on a delicate cycle.
- Avoid the dryer to reduce the risk of the fabric shrinking or losing its shape.
- Do not wring or stretch the garments while wet.
- If the garment is heavy or very elastic, let it dry flat.
4. Vegan wool and outerwear fabrics
Our vegan wool capes are designed to wrap you in your adventures during the colder months.
- When their composition and finish allow, machine wash on a delicate cycle with cold water.
- Avoid the tumble dryer and high temperatures.
- Remove lint with a soft brush.
- Store your capes hanging on a sturdy hanger.
Workshop trick: you don't need to wash a cape after every use. Often, it is enough to air it out and brush it gently.
One last tip from our workshop
Wash your garments only when they need it. Use mild detergents, cold water, and avoid harsh products. Check the specific instructions for your garment: embroidery, appliqués, trimmings, or delicate finishes may require different types of cleaning.
