About us
Costurero Real is a fantasy atelier founded in 2008 by Alassie, costume designer and creative director of the brand, in Hospitalet de Llobregat, Barcelona.
From our workshop, we design and create costumes, accessories, and small objects inspired by nature, European folklore, fantasy literature, and ancient tales.
Behind each collection are sketches, fabric tests, patterns, prototypes, and many hours of work by a team of artisans and collaborators. Some pieces are made one by one, and others in small series, but all are born from the same place: our workshop and the universe we have been building for almost twenty years.
A story that began in 2008
Costurero Real began as Alassie's personal project while she was studying for a master's degree in costume design for film and theater in Barcelona.
In June 2008, she opened a small blog where she shared class projects, sketches, collaborations, and the fantasy garments she designed. There was no business plan yet. It was simply a place to store ideas and tell stories through costumes.
In 2009 came the first collection, inspired by Arthurian legends. Then came folk tales, the first orders for medieval weddings and photo shoots, Etsy, fairs, and, little by little, a small team and an increasingly larger workshop.
Today, Alassie continues to design and creatively direct Costurero Real, maintaining the same fascination for forests, creatures, history, travel, and those worlds that seem to exist somewhere between reality and fairy tales.
What we do
Over the years, we have created hundreds of pieces that have traveled all over the world for photographers, dancers, artists, weddings, LARP, Ren Fairs, festivals, and people who simply want to incorporate a bit of fantasy into their lives.
Butterfly wings
One of our most recognizable creations is our giant butterfly wings, inspired by real species.
They can be used as capes, veils, dance scarves, or wings for artistic photography. Some models reach more than three meters in wingspan and have reinforced edges that allow for large movements similar to the Isis Wings used in oriental dance.
Fantasy Costumes
We design Renaissance corsets, elven and medieval dresses, capes, kimonos, skirts, and other garments inspired by travelers, fairies, witches, legends, and forest creatures.
We work with velvets, chiffons, linens, tartans, and fabrics with our own prints to create garments designed to be combined with each other and build different characters and universes.
Leather craftsmanship
In our workshop, we also create light armor, belts, bracers, bags, masks, and leather accessories for LARP, Ren Fairs, cosplay, and fantasy photography.
Many pieces are molded, engraved, and hand-painted, and in some designs, we combine traditional techniques with resin or 3D printing developed in our own workshop.
Made by people, not a factory
Costurero Real is still a small independent company.
At a time when it is increasingly difficult to distinguish handcrafted from mass-produced, it is important for us to tell who is behind what we do.
Here there is no large factory or collections produced by the thousands. There are people designing, cutting, sewing, molding leather, preparing orders, taking photographs, and constantly looking for new ways to turn an idea into something you can wear.
Being a small business also means that we cannot compete with the speed or prices of large mass production platforms.
And we have decided that we don't want to.
We prefer to create less, work in small series, develop our own designs, and preserve the artisanal character that has accompanied Costurero Real since its beginnings.
Because we believe that it is still worthwhile for small workshops, independent designers, and creative businesses capable of doing different things to exist.
Beyond clothing
Over the years, Costurero Real has ceased to be just an atelier.
In our space in Barcelona, we also organize creative workshops, sensory experiences, gatherings, and immersive role-playing days, seeking to make some of the worlds we imagine tangible, not just wearable.
After almost twenty years, many things have changed.
The workshop is larger. The garments have traveled much further than Alassie could have imagined when she opened that blog in 2008. We have learned new trades, made mistakes, changed, and started over many times.
But the idea that gave rise to Costurero Real remains practically the same:
to create things for people who feel that the everyday world could use a little more magic.
