The Adventurer's Tavern: How Our First Immersive Tabletop RPG Event Was Born
For years, the Costurero Real Creative Space in Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona) has been a place dedicated to building small fantasy worlds: medieval dresses, leather armor, handmade scenery, 3D printing, and decoration inspired by fantasy universes.
However, one question always lingered in our minds.
What if, instead of creating scenarios for photographs, we built a world where other people could live an adventure?
This is how The Adventurer's Tavern was born, an immersive tabletop RPG experience inspired by games like Dungeons & Dragons, designed for both veteran players and people who had never rolled a twenty-sided die.

Much More Than Just a D&D Game
Our goal was never simply to organize a role-playing game.
We wanted to create a complete experience.
For one weekend, we transformed our workshop into an authentic fantasy tavern, where every corner was part of the story.
Participants didn't just play an adventure.
They lived an entire day surrounded by handcrafted scenery, ambient lighting, themed food, music, and decoration specifically designed for each of the tables.
Everything was designed so that immersion began the moment they walked through the door.

An Event Also Designed for Those Who Had Never Played
One of the biggest challenges was making sure anyone could participate, even without prior role-playing game experience.
That's why the first day was dedicated to initiation.
In the morning, we simply explained the basic rules of Dungeons & Dragons, how a character sheet works, the different races, classes, abilities, and the combat system.
After a themed meal, the most anticipated moment arrived: sitting around a table and starting the adventure.
Many of the attendees had never played a role-playing game before.
By the end of the day, several confessed that they wanted to do it again.
For us, that was probably the greatest success of the event.

Four Completely Different Tables
One of the most special aspects of The Adventurer's Tavern was that each table told a completely different story.
Each had its own scenery, lighting, atmosphere, and narrative style.
While one invited exploration of an enchanted forest, another transported players to an old mansion full of secrets.
The game masters adapted their adventures to scenarios specifically created for them, making each group live a unique experience.

Weeks of Work Behind Every Detail
Although the event only lasted a weekend, its preparation began many months before.
Much of the scenery was designed and 3D printed in our own workshop.
We painted miniatures, built buildings, fabricated trees, rocks, furniture, and hundreds of small elements that would eventually become part of the games.
We also designed the signage, character sheets, decoration, menus, and all the details that helped reinforce the feeling of entering another world.
Our goal was that, regardless of the adventure each person played, they would feel like they were exploring a real place.

A Community of Adventurers
What surprised us most was not just the event's reception.
It was the community that began to form around it.
Many participants arrived without knowing anyone.
By the end of the weekend, they were already exchanging contacts, talking about future campaigns, and asking when the next edition would be.
We received dozens of messages from people interested in participating, both veteran players and people who had always wanted to try Dungeons & Dragons but didn't know where to start.
Even several people offered to be future game masters to collaborate on new adventures.
At that moment, we understood that The Adventurer's Tavern was not simply an event.
We were creating a community.

The Beginning of a New Adventure
When we dismantled the last table and put away the scenery, we already knew that it wasn't over.
In fact, just a few days later, we started designing the next edition.
We are currently working on The Adventurer's Tavern II: The Legend of the Lost Islands, a new immersive experience set in an archipelago full of submerged cities, fog-shrouded ports, forgotten ruins, and hidden mysteries beneath the ocean.
Over the next few months, we will once again build sets, 3D print hundreds of pieces, and prepare new adventures so that each participant can continue writing their character's story.
Because, after all, that was the true purpose of this project.
Not to organize a role-playing game.
But to build a place you always want to return to.
