What is Castlecore? Medieval fashion inspired by castles, armor, and Gothic architecture

Castlecore is much more than medieval-inspired clothing. It's a fantasy aesthetic built around ancient castles, armor, Gothic architecture, velvet, brocade, and the feeling of stepping into another world. What is Castlecore?

Imagine stone walls, ruined towers, ancient wooden gates, silver armor reflecting the light, velvet dresses sweeping through a corridor, and keys that seem capable of opening a room closed for centuries.

That's the world behind Castlecore.

Castlecore is a fantasy aesthetic inspired by medieval castles, Gothic architecture, knights, historical attire, and the romantic idea of living within an ancient fortress.

It can be dark and dramatic, but it doesn't always have to be. It can also be romantic, soft, and even quite easy to incorporate into an everyday look.

For us, Castlecore is not about precisely reproducing a single historical period. It's about taking the shapes, textures, and symbols that make us think of castles and transforming them into clothing that can be part of a modern fantasy wardrobe.

Where our Castlecore collection comes from At Costurero Real, we've always been fascinated by creating garments that make you feel like you've stepped into another story. But with this collection, we wanted to move a bit away from the forests, fairies, and elven imagery that has appeared in some of our previous work. Castles. Ruins. Gothic windows. Medieval armor. Old keys. Swords. Heraldic shapes. Dark halls. Tailored clothing. The contrast between delicate fabrics and metal. That contrast became one of the main ideas of the collection. Silver velvet alongside molded leather armor. Red and black brocade alongside simpler medieval shirts. Structured corsets combined with wide skirts and more fluid garments. We wanted the pieces to seem to belong to different people inhabiting the same imaginary castle. A warrior. A court noble. A mysterious traveler. A castle lady. Someone exploring its ruins centuries later.

 

Gothic architecture transformed into clothing

One of the parts we enjoyed most when designing Castlecore was transforming architectural details into wearable elements.

Gothic arches and cathedral windows inspired some of the shapes engraved on our leather accessories.

Prints include elements like swords, keys, armor, towers, and other medieval symbols, creating fabrics that clearly belong to the collection's universe even when the garment has a relatively simple silhouette.

How to wear Castlecore

You don't need to wear full armor to dress Castlecore.

An outfit can simply start with a medieval-inspired shirt and a brocade vest.

A simple dress can be completely transformed by adding a corset belt.

A silver velvet dress can be worn alone for a more romantic medieval look or combined with leather armor to create something much more dramatic.

That's why some of the pieces in the collection are designed to work together.

 

This makes Castlecore particularly well-suited for Ren Fairs, LARP, fantasy weddings, medieval events, and photo shoots, but also for anyone who simply enjoys adding a bit of fantasy to their wardrobe.

The leather pieces also play a very special role.

Instead of using real metal armor, we molded, engraved, and painted the leather to achieve the appearance of aged silver armor, while maintaining the material's lightness and flexibility.

The result is a very spectacular piece in photography and as part of a complete look, but much more comfortable to wear than metal armor.

Some pieces can be purchased and combined separately, allowing you to gradually build your own armor.

There's no single right way to dress Castlecore.

You might be more drawn to its romantic side: velvet, long skirts, and dramatic sleeves.

You might prefer armor, leather, and darker silhouettes.
